Wednesday, May 6, 2020 – And Jesus Cried Out

This is what the people did not expect. God to cry out to them, to plea. To explain. To justify. To save.

They expected a great sign. A valiant, unstoppable soldier from the heavens, who would be judge and jury and bring order and justice to the world, who would establish His kingdom on Earth. They expected a warrior.

And so when this Jesus, a humble, modest, hard-working carpenter cried out to them, to explain who He is, claiming that He is not here to judge, but to save – they did not understand.

Our God does not cry out, they say. He is a God of power and justice. God is infinite wisdom, the One who led our ancestors out of Egypt, who parted the Red Sea, who provided water from a rock and manna in the desert. He flooded the Earth, speaking to Noah telling him to build an ark. He closed the Lions mouths saving Daniel. He delivered Jonah from the belly of the whale. He chose David, and through him slew the giant Goliath.

He does not cry out to us, as a person – and a person who says that by looking at himself – you see God.

Who is this Jesus?  He is an imposter. A blasphemer. He is a nobody from Galilee. He is not the Son of God. He is not the Messiah. He is a man. A delusional man. And as a result – the Last Supper. The Passion and Crucifixion.

And the Resurrection.

God saved us through our own free will. The free will that He gave us, that condemned us. We chose to crucify Him. And yet, by choosing to believe in Him, in His resurrection – we are saved.

It is law.

See, the universe is made up of physical and spiritual laws.

The physical laws…

Gravity. The speed of light. Relativity. The Higgs boson particle, aka the “God Particle”. The laws of physics cannot be broken. They are a constant.

But what if they could be bent? What if space could literally be bent using the very physics that constrains it? Einstein theorized this. Wormholes through space that if the right gravitational force and amount of energy could be produced – space could be bent like a piece of paper where we could instantaneously travel to the other side of the universe in an instant.

The laws would not be broken. Really, they would not be bent. Only space would be bent. Through gravity and energy. Two physical constants in the universe. In fact, this is not physics being bent or broken, but the laws of physics in their perfection.

It is the same with the spiritual laws. God has implemented these spiritual laws, and without adhering to we cannot enter Heaven. Adam and Eve fell and ushered these into the human existence resulting in the human condition. In short – sin entered the world and our soul.

God gave us free will – a spiritual law. Sure, He had the power to step in and save us and make us do what He wanted, but He knew that we would be enslaved to Him, which would violate His Love for us, and His desire for our happiness and freedom.

He loves us too much. Stepping in and forcing us to love violates His Spiritual Law of Love.

But when we are in sin, in the eyes of spiritual law, we are separate from Him and destined for Hell. When we do not listen to Him, when we worship idols other than Him, we are destined to be separated from Him. Except He sent His son to be incarnate as one of us, with the same flaws and blemishes, with the same desires and temptations as us, but with one mission – to save us.

How? By dying for us for our sins. Just like I don’t know how the laws of physics and wormholes and gravity really work – I don’t know how this spiritual law of salvation works.

Yet it did. And it does. And this is what Jesus is crying out to us about today.

Can’t you see it? Can’t you see Who I Am? Don’t you understand the scripture, what my Father said over the centuries? He is here. I am here. In the flesh. We are One and the same. I am not here to destroy. I am not here to judge. I am not here for vengeance. I am here for one thing, and one thing only – to save. To save you. To save everyone if they choose to love me and to see me for who I am. For where I have come from.

For if you see Me, you see my Father.

You see God. In Jesus. In the person. In the flesh.

And He cried out… God did not break His laws. He did not bend them. He perfected them.

Through His Love.

  1. You hit the nail on the head, Joe! The other night, as i was meditating, i was trying to make sense of what is currently happening in the world…in my life. Finally, i decided to have an online retreat. And there it is, the first topic is about God’s love and communicating with God, which is prayer. And now, the gospel and your insights on this regard. Bottomline – I have to trust Him, no matter how perplexing life may be, He is love… He is the Good Sheperd… I have to believe and to love. Thanks a lot, Joe.

  2. This is Jesus trying to explain. Explain who he is and plead with humanity. Desperate to get the message across to anyone who will listen…they just couldn’t see the light…Can I? Thanks Joe very cool stuff.

  3. Thanks Joe, good reflection. I can’t help but to think if Jesus was here (in person) today, “crying out” – He would be run out on a rail as he was 2,000 years ago.
