Wednesday, June 14, Teach me your paths, my God,

“Sunset at Pine Point”  Picture by Richard Sawyer

The Holy Spirit inspired our blog.

Teach me your paths, my God,

and guide me in your truth.

Ps 25:4b, 5a

The quote is from the Alleluia refrain before the Gospel reading.

I noticed we are in the tenth week of ORDINARY times.

Ordinary times?

I believe this is one of the problems facing the Christian Churches today.

Because the Holy Spirit was infused into our souls at Baptism, we live in EXTRAORDINARY Times!

Those of us who are Baptised have the Holy Spirit infused into our souls and have the opportunity to live in the “Spirit World” and leave the “world” behind.

We should all be filled with Joy that we have the whisper of the  Holy Spirit to lead us.

That does not mean we won’t encounter difficulties, but it does mean we have a Father who has our back, and if you look at your life carefully, you will discover, maybe surprisingly, that this statement is true with you.

In fact, as we have reported in earlier blogs, you should rejoice about your difficulties because it gives you a chance to show those around you what the difference is living in the “Spirit World.”

And how do you show the difference?

Joy!

If Jesus was filled with Joy while hanging on His Cross, shouldn’t you show the same Joy while encountering your Cross?

Yes, we live in EXTRAORDINARY Times and should celebrate this daily.

As we reported in an earlier blog, I now start each day sitting on the edge of the bed before I get up and pray,

“This is the day the Lord has made; let us rejoice and be glad.”

I am Eighty-two years young, and I have never started on such a positive note each day.

I love it!

Like you, I have issues,

But,

Today is the start of a whole new life if I allow God to take me where God wants me to go, which is why I want the Triune God to teach me their paths.

If you want to join Team Jesus, pray. Thank you, Father, for the difficulties (Name the difficulty……………) you have ALLOWED in my life; I know you will take care of me.  Pray this until you smile, and that smile tells you, you are back with the Holy Spirit living in the “Spirit World.”

Sidebar:

At Mass two weeks ago, it was reported that the priests were going on retreat.

Maine has thirty-three priests who come from our state and thirty-four priests who are from Africa, South America, India, etc.

As we say in Maine, the Priests from “Away” are Missionary Priests, as I am sure many of you know.

What was interesting to me was years ago, when I was growing up, we used to pride ourselves on sending Missionary Priests to the undeveloped world.

Pride, by the way, is a sin, and we used this word because I believe it was true.  We were above the Third World people and would lead them to Jesus.

The Priests I have met are wonderful and have brought a different perspective to Mass.

When Mike and I were in Honduras many years ago, we were there to help these wonderful people, and we did it by giving freely of our time and money from our surplus.

They also gave freely of their time and gave gifts to us from their need.

A big difference.

I was given a Rosary, which, and still does, blew me away, and I left Honduras thinking I had a lot of growing to do.

The kids, who are a reflection of the parents, had nothing, and yet they were filled with Joy.

I also realized at Mass, Holy Spirit, that we need Missionaries to celebrate Mass,

BUT,

We also have to take on the responsibility of being a reflection of a God of Outrageous Love, and if we do this, we are becoming Missionaries ourselves.

I apologize. Gail and I were going to be busy for a four-week period, and I wrote four blogs and I thought I submitted all four. The June 7th blog was not posted, so I quickly submitted it on 6/7, a day late, and of course, nothing went right. The picture wouldn’t load, and I couldn’t figure out why, Jen’s picture is beautiful. I am including her picture in today’s blog.

I pray this will never happen again.

  1. I love the extra ordinary times analogy, the time of God’s Spirit. The Spirit blows into our spirits to give us joy and radiance. Beautiful reflection Fred.

  2. Thank you Fred. Many views have changed for me since reading your blogs. My view of difficulties, hardship and even physical challenges. They seem to have taken a back seat to joy, belief and Holy exuberance. We thank you for bringing out the Holy Spirit in all of our hearts and lives…life’s too short to be grumpy and miserable when the grace and joy of God in Christ Jesus is abundant. Peace my brother.

  3. Thanks Fred for an inspiring reflection. Through you, I also learned to thank the Lord for our difficulties…which I also share with others. Yes, God allows difficulties to happen in our lives…but, it’s just hard for us to see the greater good in all of it. Peace and blessings to all.

  4. “In the world, but not of the world ….. “. You are 10 years ahead of me, Fred. I find ever more that the relativism, individualism and absence of absolute truths is wrecking our society in Britain: so sad. Living in ‘the Spirit World’ is amazing.
I confess to having stolen something from you – first thing every morning (and later) thinking of “This is the day ….. “ with a smile.
I am reading Joseph Ratzinger (Pope Benedict XVI). A deep thinker expressed clearly. I had not realised his influence for the middle way, reaching back to the Early Fathers, Acquinas, etc, and showing the sheer magnificence of God, but applying it all to today’s context. Given the ‘dumbing down’ by us in today’s apologetics, we need his clear confident vision.
I look forward to each Thursday’s ACM. Keep writing them forever (do we still write in Heaven?)

  5. Pip, Your comment blew me away. Always remember it the Holy Spirit working through me and in you that is making all of this happen. Wonderful isn’t it? Peace Fred

  6. Anonymous, Thank the Holy Spirit for getting you to try and change your life to a new life that is sadly unknown to many people. Peace Fred
