Wednesday, April 3: Death and life have contended in that combat stupendous:

He has Risen   Picture by Frank from Ohio.

The Holy Spirit inspired our blog.

Wednesday in the Octave of Easter

Jesus has Risen!

Hallelujah, Hallelujah, Hallelujah!

Christians, to the Paschal Victim

         Offer your thankful praises!

A Lamb the sheep redeems;

         Christ, who only is sinless,

         Reconciles sinners to the Father.

Death and life have contended in that combat stupendous:

The Prince of life, who died, reigns immortal.

Speak, Mary, declaring

         What you saw, wayfaring.

“The tomb of Christ, who is living,

         The glory of Jesus’ resurrection;

bright angels attesting,

         The shroud and napkin resting.

Yes, Christ my hope is arisen;

to Galilee he goes before you.”

Christ indeed from death is risen, our new life obtaining.

Have mercy, victor King, ever reigning!

         Amen. Alleluia.

Emphasis mine: Victimae paschali laudes

The reading today reflects the Joy of Jesus’s resurrection. We will run the picture every Wednesday in the Octave of Jesus.  When I first saw the picture, I said WOW! To myself.

The first reading came from The Acts of the Apostles.

In this reading, Peter and John encounter a man cripple who asks for alms. Peter responds that they have no money, but what they do have, they will give, and Peter heals the cripple, who proceeds to jump around praising God!

I love this reading because of Peter and John’s reaction to his request and the man openly proclaiming his Healing.

The response to the Responsorial Psalm: Rejoice, O hearts that seek the Lord.

The Gospel reading is the story of the Road to Emmaus.

The Holy Spirit drew my attention to the Victimae paschali laudes, which can be sung as a Gregorian chant.

YouTube:  Gregorian Chant – Victimae Paschali Laudes (Lyric Video) | Catholic Cathedral Liturgy Hymn Monk holding a candle.

I, yes, had never paid attention to this part of the Mass, which is why I love writing our Blogs.

Death and life have contended in that combat stupendous:  I don’t recall ever seeing the word Combat in referring to the Crucifixion of Jesus.

Combat is exactly what happened!

Jesus took on satan, and defeated satan.

And we know it was combat because after Jesus succumbed to Death, the people who had witnessed the death of Jesus:

When all the people who had gathered for this spectacle saw what had happened, they returned home beating their breasts; Lk 23: 48

Question: Before Jesus died, EVERYONE, including the two prisoners beside Jesus, mocked him. Mk 15: 32

Now, when they witnessed how Jesus died forgiving them, they went home pounding their breasts. Lk 23:34

You only pound your breast if you’ve lost.

satan LOST and all who were at the Crucifixion knew this.

How about you?

Are you reJoycing at the VICTORY won by Jesus?

Are you celebrating your good fortune to be alive after the Death and Resurrection of Jesus,

Or

Are you caught up in today’s news and events and allowing the current news and events to take away your Joy?

I, for one, am reJOYcing, and this is one of many reasons I am Fantastic.

I have been Justified, NOT by what I have done or am doing, but by what HE did when HE Defeated satan with HIS LIFE, DEATH, and RESURRECTION.

Wow! (There is that word again) I’m pumped just typing this.

EnJoy the day, get pumped yourself, and be Fantastic. You won because of what HE did. Don’t lose ground by listening to Satan.

Join Team Jesus:

We suggest starting every day this quarter with, “This is the day the Lord has made; let us rejoice and be glad.”

Sidebar:

The Sidebar was dead in the water until I read Fr. Richard Rohr’s 3/25/24 blog. I will briefly summarize.

Humans all require scapegoats, and the progression to scapegoating is to compare, copy,  compete,  conflict, conspire, condemn, and crucify.

Think this is not true?

Look at the election process going on right now by both sides.

Sacralized violence is some of the worst violence committed by man.

Jesus walked into this system because when the stakes are high, we determine who is in or out by violence and death.

The problem presented by Jesus is that He didn’t stay dead; now, his story is a story of Outrageous love.

And

From Love comes JOY and Peace.

Happy Easter!

Picture:

Hi Fred! I love reading your blog! I am an airline pilot and am lucky to attend Mass in different cities. Today, I was in Kansas City, and the other pilot and I went to Noon Mass for the Feast of the Presentation of our Lord. Kind of a mini Easter Vigil in the Lay People entering with candles, use of incense, and the most incredible cantor chanting in Latin… Anyway, I could not believe the miracle I witnessed: From the very beginning of the Liturgy of the Eucharist until after Mass, when they exposed the Host for Adoration, rays of light emanated from the stained glass window and shone upon the altar the entire time! Fred, had there been no incense, I wouldn’t have seen the rays of light. Cloud cover, different seating position, time of day, angle of the sun all had to be PERFECT!!  Picture by Frank from Ohio
