Thursday 6 the August- The transfiguration.

As the Harry Potter generation, transfiguration was the study of magical spells to change objects taught by Professor McGonagall and the formation of animagus. But as a catholic I never really understood why did God have to show the 3 disciples the entire scene when they were pretty convinced Jesus was the Messiah. …Apparently not! When JEsus had asked them earlier who they thought He was .. the answers varied which was pretty unexpected Im sure , why would the 12 chosen disciples not believe Jesus to be the Messiah???!!!

So just like the storyline of a movie is given as a glimpse to us as the trailer so we can speculate the basic outline and attend the main show ….. We do not know the entire story just yet how it will play out but we do have a pretty good idea of what is in store .. the same way , God confirmed Jesus to be His son and would be in presence of the prophets who had died and were in heaven. A trailer to the future of son of God! A snippet of the future and the fact that God Himself confirmed it… there arose no further doubt!!! Jesus is the Messiah and salvation will be achieved through him…

So what does that have got to do with me, who already believes that Jesus is the messiah today and right now! We reflect and resonate on the words of God .. “this is my beloved son, with whom I am well please .. LISTEN TO HIM” We have to listen!!!!

Todays Gospel (after the entire episode) just wants us to LISTEN to Jesus and His church and its teachings! Be the good christian and not just follow the rules but implement them in every aspect of our lives — especially among family since we are working/ studying from home. It is one super hard task as at every thought we are conditioned to think like earthly behaviour.

PRAYER: Dear Jesus, I am here .. Listening to your voice and words. Guide me and help me consciously follow your pathway and refrain from deviations and temptations!! Bless all the faithful across the world. Amen

  1. Some thoughts to share:

Today’s reading ends from the book of Jeremiah. Those who survived the devastation and destruction by the Babylonians will receive God’s grace and rest. God’s message to Israel was His eternal assurance of His love – an everlasting love, anchored in the past and joined to the future. God’s love is evident in creation, in you and me. God’s love is clearly abundant when He sent His only Son to save us.

In today’s gospel, Jesus went to the Gentile cities of Tyre and Sidon. A Canaanite woman intercedes with Jesus for her daughter who is demon-possessed. She understood who Jesus was, but Jesus’ own countrymen didn’t know or didn’t accept Him. Jesus did so many miracles in Jewish territory as Gentiles came to Him, but here, Jesus was in Gentile territory. At first Jesus ignores her plea, and then says, “I was not sent except to the lost sheep of the house of Israel.” But she persisted and when she cried out, “Lord, help me”, Jesus’ heart softened, though He still continued to say, “It is not good to take the children’s bread and throw it to the little dogs.” It was her great, determined and persistent faith that won Him over when she said, “Yes, Lord, yet even the little dogs eat the crumbs which fall from their masters’ table.”

Surprisingly, even though Jesus came to save the lost sheep of Israel, it was the Gentiles and outcasts who proved to have more faith in Him. The demons recognized Him as the Son of God. Do I have strong, persistent faith? Do I dare hold Jesus’ hand and walk on water? Do I trust to cast my net on the other side as Jesus commands? And when He says, “follow me” do I respond with loud yes?
