I will give you the keys to the Kingdom of heaven.
Whatever you bind on earth shall be bound in heaven;
and whatever you loose on earth shall be loosed in heaven.

With great power comes great responsibility! So does saint Peters role…. Like every resident doctor, we are responsible for our patients health! We ensure how we manage them, collect their investigations, round on the clock , every 6 hours minimum and ensure they are healthy and evaluated .. it is my responsibility to ensure that decisions for the management are made as I present their update for rounds .. my consultants take decisions about the patients next step of management whether surgery or chemotherapy or further evaluation. We hold meetings , tumor boards, discussions, go through literature, scans and discuss how to manage every patient in depth.

St Peter is given the keys to the pearly gates – a path we would all love to tread and get through but I wonder how does he manage it – is there a meeting held to discuss the situations that are dodgy or confusing? are there special concessions given to those dealing with bad life ? or overworked doctors with poor prayer life trying very hard to abstain ? ! (I hope so)

This Lent, as I abstain from alot of my comfort and my favourite stuff and habits, I am working on my prayer life , whether it is a podcast or a short prayer in my car – I can feel my mental health shaking and my homesickness growing by leaps and bounds… and part of reason I look forward to Easter is the fact that I can go home and finally sit in my place of comfort and familiarity.. the responsibility takes a break for few days as I recover and immerse myself in prayer!

This Lent , let us pick our crosses as our responsibility and enable ourselves to be eligible to make St Peter do his job! Let us pray a bit more, fast a little and give alms to the needy! It is the season of repentance and reconciliation for our souls and much needed detox for our human body! Let us try to attempt at it!

PRAYER

As I stand here before you Lord, I ask for this responsibility to be taken off my shoulders and laid at your feet- help me to accept humility and work to be a better human in faith! Guide me like you helped St Peter and ensure get through the pearly gates to be with you!

AMEN
