‘Go your way; your faith has saved you.”

As I stood in my patient ward, there is this bright eyed extremely cheerful 18 year old girl with ovarian cancer, she received chemotherapy and was being prepped for her surgery. I saw a rosary by her bedside and was taken back to my dads surgery- 2 years ago, he was frantic post his surgery, if his Rosary was missing! We found it tucked away neatly in his patient clothes pocket. He was relieved.

The faith I see on a daily basis is amazing. Somedays , I smile and tell my patient I am Christian too and like this girl, as I scrubbed in for her surgery, I said a Hail Mary I find myself whispering a soft prayer as I stand at the operating table.

Faith can move mountains and change diagnosis – of course as a person of science it would take me alot of effort to believe the same but as I walk around my hospital I see people full of faith and hope and disease. There are days I wonder why a child should get cancer and I feel heartbroken. Life is unpredictable and whenever I get upset over any petty issue – I look at them – my patients – suffering from cancer, some weak, some bald from chemotherapy, some struggling to eat and live while some praying for a rapid cure!

PRAYER

Help me Lord to appreciate the life I have Lord. Give me faith as strong as theirs and guide me through every day of life!

AMEN
