“What did you go out to the desert to see  a reed swayed by the wind?
Then what did you go out to see?
Someone dressed in fine garments?
Those who dress luxuriously and live sumptuously
are found in royal palaces.
Then what did you go out to see?
A prophet? Yes, I tell you, and more than a prophet.

I often imagined meeting Jesus in person, what would I say? Would I be dancing and screaming for His attention among the crowds surrounding Him? I would be beaming with joy and happiness for witnessing the Lord…

But then Jesus resides us all! So every human I encounter is an image of Jesus, from my parents to the random elderly lady who struck up a conversation with me at the hospital waiting room today! ( It is amazing to watch how strangers become acquaintances after a 5 minute conversation about trauma, health, religion, work and finally politics! )

We often are carried away by our own issues we tend to overlook the daily mundane stuff! While I watched a family friend get married , I forgot my hassles for a few hours and lived in the moment. Pray does the same, I dump all my problems and Jesus and thank Him for my blessings and finally say .. I surrender it to you!

This christmas has been a very enlightening one! From realising how old my parents are and how much I need to support them as an adult child, to the immense amount of human support I receive from my family and friends , even readers of this page , the prayers and the faith everyone has makes me even question my shaky prayer life! While I am terrified to be alone with my thoughts as the worst begins to dawn on me… I watched my dad , who I asked ” are you scared ?” before our appointment with the doctor, smile and say ” No. I said my prayers!”

I am blessed by the immense love and prayers from all of you too! Thank you!! I pray and thank everyone!

PRAYER:

Dear Lord, bless everyone to get through this advent with the faith to you and presence of their loved ones! Bless all who read this to have more faith in your immense power and know that you are the one true God! Always and forever!

AMEN

  1. Analise, may the Good Lord be with you and your family. May he touch your Dad with his healing hands. Amen. May he answer all your prayers. Amen.

  2. Dr. Analise,
Again, your outpouring of your heart is so honest and real. I know the pain of being alone in the terror of thoughts. God know this and draws you near, just like He draws me near. Prayers continue for you and your family. Taking in slow deep breaths in and out while saying the Hail Mary is soothing.

  3. Your writing speaks to me. May God continue to work thru you. You are a blessing to those of us you share with as I’m certain you are to your family and patients. May our gracious God keep providing you the Grace to continue in all you do.

  4. Dear Analise, many years ago I stood by my father’s hospital bed, and he told me that he was not afraid to die, he just hated to leave me and the rest of his family. When he did die, I was comforted by his great faith. Now I am old and I feel the same way. I am not afraid to die but hate to leave my family. But I firmly believe that we will all be together in heaven one day. I believe that I will see my father again. And we will be with God. In all things may God’s will be done.

  5. Dr Analise thank you so much for your deep reflections. I too have experienced my father comforting me from his bedside in the emergency room. Like your dad his faith was deeply rooted in God. You are truly blessed. God has planted you and allowed your faith to be nutured by faithful parents. Continue to bear good fruit on your life’s journey. Thanks for your prayer. May God grant healing to your dad and comfort your family at this time.
    God bless.

  6. May God lift you up through the love of others during this painful time. We all need other people in life; we can’t “go at it alone.” Jesus didn’t mean for any of us to go it alone. Thank you for your reflection.
