In Wisdom is a spirit
    intelligent, holy, unique,
Manifold, subtle, agile,
    clear, unstained, certain,
Not baneful, loving the good, keen,
    unhampered, beneficent, kindly,
Firm, secure, tranquil,
    all-powerful, all-seeing,
And pervading all spirits,
though they be intelligent, pure and very subtle.
For Wisdom is mobile beyond all motion,
and she penetrates and pervades all things by reason of her purity.
For she is an aura of the might of God
    and a pure effusion of the glory of the Almighty;
therefore nought that is sullied enters into her.

As a child, we look upto our parents for wisdom. I look up to my mother, from buying food stuff or investing money, everything I run by her for a wise outlook and opinion. Yes there are times I may belittle her for not being up to date with technology or the latest updates, yet she never ceases to amaze me how she adjusted with new technology, social media and works it all out on her own.

There are times I do find her rationale completely illogical and absurd and some days I am amazed how she puts stuff in perspective, she chatters with a newborn and an aged human with effortless ease while packing lunches for me, hugging the cat, catching up on neighborhood banter and tending to care for my ailing father. Some days I watch her to see if she can whip out extra set of arms to multitask while she may complain occasionally about her sleepless nights and aching back and feet, which she dismisses instantly and moves on with her routine!

As I read the first reading, I could see the spirit of wisdom seem to describe my own mother in flesh and blood, who celebrates her 66th birthday today! Her faith in Jesus and mother Mary through every one of the above turmoil is unwavering. She stands by her family strong and guides each of us with wisdom while silently panicking about my dads potential malignant illness, my marriage hopes and the cats overeating habits! She seems so calm at times on the surface and I have friends who actually come to seek her advice for marriage and in general, she always seems to know the answer.

While her faith in mother Mary has made me a better catholic and her stress made me natural worrier, I owe almost all my sense of confidence and self to her and the rest genetics from dad. While she always gave me random words for thought which somehow pop up in my brain during my regular life and trials, I always watched her help others selflessly and silently with no expectations in return … from us as family to the neighborhood, to her customers at her job, she never failed to shine her christian light. She does crack under stress like us and may get emotional when we have a discussion , but I know she wants the best for us in her wisdom!

Today I owe my reflection to all our mothers, who silently and faithfully have worked their magic in our lives into what they are, just like mine. While I stood fearless on a stage or cut open a human on a operation table or attempt at something completely new or different in my life, I know she is there present as my spirit of wisdom – full of faith and hope and helping me selflessly everyday and making the best food ever!!

Happy birthday my mama!!! you are the best and always will be! Thank you for everything! ( I know you read all my reflections)

  13. What a beautiful tribute to your mother. You, and I, were blessed with wonderful mothers. I recognized that as a young adult when I saw that not everyone was as blessed as we are to have such loving and amazing mothers. May mother Mary hold all those not so blessed in her loving embrace and provide them the guidance their earthly mothers were unable to give. Happy birthday to your mama and prayers for many more to come. My prayers also for your father that the healing hand of God our father be upon him. 🙏

  14. In one of the retreats I attended, the importance of a mother in everyone as important as one’s neck. The neck provides support to the skull and is the most flexible part allowing large movements to scan our surroundings and for proper neck movement, vital to one’s survival. Mothers by nature have several hands for multi-tasks. Mothers support, stabilize and moves and assist children in a continuous learning of chewing, swallowing and breathing daily in all we face and do. Hug your mother for me on her special day!

  15. I’m adopted and my adopted mother is the most wonderful mother in the entire world. God knew my birth mother couldn’t give me what I needed so he provided me with earthly
Parents and I am so blessed for this. Thank you lord and thank you to all the amazing moms tht make such a difference In all of our lives
