Been nearly 40 days into the new year, I have started working out regularly despite all the internal monologue of needing some rest, I have prayed for 10 days and then just say a small prayer before I fall asleep. I have missed so many family rosaries for many reasons and above all I am procrastinating writing reflections !

Not the ideal situation for the new year, but today as I read about Saint Scholastica , how she started a storm with a prayer when she didnt want her brother to leave around her time of death, I am hopeful I can stretch the hours in the day to catch up on some extra shut eye or better prayer time!

“Let the children be fed first.
For it is not right to take the food of the children
and throw it to the dogs.”
She replied and said to him,
“Lord, even the dogs under the table eat the children’s scraps.”

I did take some time to realise what the hidden message was in todays reading, and as an animal lover, I do know my parents love the animals with same affection as they have for a child like me .. but in case of a calamity they will pick me over the pets!

While Jesus was referring to her being Greek and secondary to receive His blessings as compared to his local people, I find that a little odd considering Jesus stands for equality of all humans but then, maybe I am misinterpreting. Either ways, Gods love doesnt change with our origin or race or gender… this website is a prime example of that!!

I am a brown skinned Indian girl who is catholic and a minority in my own country writing about my faith and responded to by people of same beliefs across the globe! The power of faith is insurmountable, recently when I could not attend the exam, a muslim classmate texted me about me not giving up and asked me ” do you love Jesus?” she went to explain how she is fascinated by teachings of Christ and has even read the Bible! It astonished me !!!!

Faith is what keeps us going, and while I get told off about my pro life stance or my religion being full of priests who abused kids , I believe there is justice for everyone! Jesus is watching us with tearful eyes and soon Saint scholastica might have to pray for a storm … storm to make us realise that there is more to faith than just sunday mass or the vatican. There is a Christ who teaches and preaches love to others, which is by far the hardest act to perform!

Let us be the children with the dogs waiting for the food and crumbs of the Gospel and teachings to fill our eternal hunger and satisfy the needs of our spiritual life!

Prayer:

Bless and empower me Lord with faith and belief in your power that cannot be shaken ! Fill me with your words to be a better person in faith and radiate it across everyone I know in real or virtual life!

AMEN!

  1. Can anyone tell me who can update the monthly Mass readings Colander ?
Thanks for your help and have a blessed day !

  2. Yes, God is for everybody; He needs us to show/prove our faith then He will move mountains for us when we request.
    Thank you for the reflection

  3. Beautiful reflection. Thank you. I imagine Jesus must have been smiling warmly, encouragingly as he addressed the Greek woman. Knowing her faith, he wanted her to have the joy of participating in the healing of her daughter. Sometimes we do the same with our children, students (I’m a math/science secondary school teacher). Good day everyone.

  4. Another winner Dr. Analise. I recite the rosary during my daily exercise. Its soothing. If you can’t make it to family rosary. Try that! I’m so grateful for all of your posts and our brothers and sisters in Christ who encourage. Be blessed today. Prayers for your exams and family

  5. Annalise,
I get exhausted reading about your busy life! I’m glad you take time to feed your soul. There Lord’s nourishment is what you need.
John N Ndichu, thank you for the scenario of Jesus smiling, aware of the woman’s faith and wanting her to participate in her daughter’s healing. That makes so much sense and I never thought of it that way!

  6. Really good stuff today Analise. Our faith is something intangible and beyond simple explanation and understanding. It’s the Holy Spirit doing its work 24/7 now and forever. Peace my sister.

  7. Thank you Analise,

Your insight continues to be a beacon in my quest for deeper faith. Some of my fondest memories of friendship were spending time with a good friend and work colleague from GOA and he too shared his deep Catholic faith from his childhood in that beautiful part of the world. Very grateful to you for invoking that spirit and wisdom once again.

    Love through blind faith,
    Lance

  8. Analise, I was touched by your whole reflection, and particularly by the kind deed of your Muslim colleague. There is a Muslim family living across the street from my daughter and we are able to have respectful dialogue about each other’s religion and teachings. God created and loves us all.

  9. Dr. Analise María! May you and your family be blessed today and always. Please, please, keep sharing!
