How is your Lenten journey?
Do you see yourself as a merciful and compassionate person?
Jesus’ message is revolutionary. He calls us to love every person as a brother or sister, even those considered enemies. Jesus says that we are all brothers and sisters because we have one Father.
He reminded us that God wants to build a relationship with us. God’s love heals, nourishes and takes care of us.
“Be merciful, just as your Father is merciful” He said.
In our personal and social lives, we breathe an atmosphere of growing hostility and competition, of mutual suspicion, categorical judgments and fear of others. Grudges accumulate and lead to conflicts and wars.
As Christians, Jesus asked us to begin to rebuild the weakened or broken bonds in our family, in our workplace, in the parish community or in our political party.
He wants us to have the courage to ask forgiveness and start again. It is an act of great dignity. If someone has truly offended us, let’s try to forgive them and make room for that person once more in our heart, so that the wound can heal.
The first reading from the Book of Daniel reminds us that we are sinners, and we need GOD’s mercy.
The psalm picks up this theme with the response refrain being: “LORD, do not deal with us as our sins deserve.”
If GOD dealt with us as our sins deserve, none of us would have a chance.
Let’s think about it this week.
Have a blessed week.
