MONDAY OF THE FIRST WEEK OF EASTER, OCTAVE OF EASTER, APRIL 21, 2025, YEAR C

Happy Easter all. Christ is risen. He lives. Because He lives, we can face tomorrow. Alleluia, Amen.

The resurrection story of Jesus and the empty tomb” sent shock waves to both the disciples of Jesus, the guards, and the religious authorities.

How did each group respond to the strange new of empty tomb and resurrection?

The two ladies, the two Marys (Mary Magdalene and “the other Mary” [sister or cousin of Jesus) were the first to discover the tomb empty, while it was still dark when the two Marys reached the burial site, early on Sunday morning.

They were shocked at seeing an open tomb without Jesus’ body in it.

They ran back with fear and joy to report the news to the apostles.

While on the way Jesus met them and greeted them. Then, Jesus told them to inform the apostles that He would meet them in Galilee. The two Marys did exactly as Jesus ordered them to do, thus becoming the “apostles to the apostles.”

How did the guards react to the empty tomb and resurrection of Jesus?

The guards upon finding the tomb empty went to the chief priests to report the resurrection of Jesus. However, they were promptly silenced by the Temple authorities who offered them bribe to spread the false news that Jesus’ body had been stolen by his disciples.

Offered them money! Sounds familiar? Before the arrest of Jesus, the chief priests offered Judas Iscariot money to betray Jesus. The offered Judas thirty pieces of silver.

However, we are not told how much was given to the guards to buy their silence and to lie.

Have you offered someone money in exchange for the suppression of truth?
How much was it?
Have you ever received a bribe to betray someone or to keep your mouth shut?
How much did you receive? A kickback!

The Easter message is simple. Jesus is alive. He is risen! Jesus is risen indeed.
My dear brothers and sisters, we have what our world needs. We have God. Our world needs God. People are thirsting for God. Jesus says it well, “We are the salt of the earth” “We are the light of the world”
Let’s allow the light of God in us to shine. Christ’s victory offers us the message of hope, forgiveness, and the invitation to live a life transformed by the risen Christ.

Have a wonderful week
