MONDAY OF THE 25TH WEEK OF THE ORDINARY TIME, YEAR B MEMORIAL OF PADRE PIO

Today is the memorial of Saint Pius of Pietrelcina (1887-1968), Italian Capuchin friar, priest, stigmatist, and mystic, popularly known as Padre Pio. He widely venerated and respected for his deep spirituality, profound love for the sacraments, and the remarkable supernatural gifts. Padre Pio once said:

“Prayer is the best weapon we have; it is the key to God’s heart. You must speak to Jesus not only with your lips but with your heart. In fact, on certain occasions, you should only speak to Him with your heart.”

Jesus in today’s Gospel passage talks about the need for us to be light and to allow the light of God in us to shine. We have a duty. This awesome duty is to be the light of Christ to the world in need, to the world in darkness. If and when we kindle the flame of Christ in our hearts, there is a profound effect, that is, Christ shines forth through us for others to see.

The works and life of Padre Pio is an example. We all need to “see the light” of Christ. Those around us “see the light” when we are shining examples of the light of Christ to them.

Jesus reminded us not to conceal the light, “No one who lights a lamp conceals it…”

Do you see others being drawn into a love of Christ through you?

Have a wonderful week
