We must glory in the cross of our Lord Jesus Christ, in him is our salvation, life and resurrection. The response to our Responsorial Psalm says, “May the Lord be glad in his works.”
Is God glad in my works? Is God glad in your works? This is an important question which every human being must face.
Is my sacrifice, work, contributions, prayers and gifts acceptable to the Lord?
Is my pain, suffering, headaches, weaknesses, confusion and doubts acceptable to the Lord?
As we celebrate the memorial of Saint Paul Miki and his Companions, we pray “May the Lord be glad in his works.
The Father was glad in the works of Jesus. “This is my beloved Son in whom I am well pleased”
Jesus tells us “You are the salt of the earth” and “You are the light of the world”
Jesus calls us to penetrate the darkness of this world with the light of Christ. He calls us to participate in His work of creation and recreation, to extend the hand of God in healing, forgiving, preaching, and in works of charity as we live and move in the goodness of the Lord.
Like Paul Miki and his Companions, we are to bear our cross, to bear witness to Him even to the shedding of our own blood.
Like the people in today’s gospel, we are to “scurry” as we bring others to Jesus? The people did not move or walk to Jesus, rather the scurried to him. As I reflection on the gospel passage, rightfully, I remember scurrying through the airport terminals searching for the gate as I returned from vacation last week. I scurried several times, since I did not want to miss my flight.
Jesus is the source of all grace and mercy, and He is the Divine Physician who waits for you and I to come to Him with your every need. Scurry toward Him!
