Friday,July 26th, Saints Joachim and Anne

Looks like my wife, Anna and I will be great-grandparents again. We are praying for this one because in our granddaughter’s first pregnancy the baby was still born. We don’t have a due date as yet but are still excited.

My wife and I were lucky enough to come from good loving families. Not everyone is so lucky. Were they dysfunctional? Yes! You have to work at family life. Some people find family in a bar. Some are lucky to find a good church family.

As a child I remember family gatherings att different homes of my Uncles and Aunts. This was the age of children would be seen and not heard. Fat Chance in reality. They were fun. It built relationships and love grew from shared problems to shared joy.

Last Sunday we had a gathering of couples at our church. It is the ‘Super Club’, which is a gathering of 3 to 4 couples or individuals. Twice a year they will meet at one of the homes. The hosting party will provide the main entre’. It is usually adults only and if one of our priests can join us, we always invite them. There is never the same group who meet every season, so your family of people grow, because you still see and speak to them. We only started attending Mass at our church when we moved here in 2019.

We all search for family relationship!

Not all of them are good and some of them are toxic. Abuse is never a marital benefit. If you are in such a relationship get help and get out NOW! Too many of my family members stayed for the sake of the kids, but it only led to them abusing others and the cycle continues.

It doesn’t matter if you are single or married. The important thing is to find families with the good soil that Jesus spoke about in our Gospel. Jesus and Mary (Immaculate Conception) were the only two people born without Original Sin. We need to search for family relationships that are Christ centered. We need relationships that help us in our journey to Heaven.

Mary and Jesus must have had that relation with Saint Anne and Saint Joachim. It is a pleasure being a parent, grandparent and great grandparent. We are not lucky all the time. Parents are imperfect. Search for the family that brings you closer to God.

Please pray for the safety of all political candidates.

God Love You Always

  1. Thanks Bob for your regular Friday reflections. They are always sensible and helpful.

Thanks to all of you who pray for those of us with cancer. I will be starting new treatments soon. Please pray for me that God make them effective and with minimal side effects.

A good Sabbath and weekend to all.

  2. Thank you, Bob for another reflection that makes one look into their spiritual relationships as well as “family” relationships. I will pray for this new lil nugget on the way. May our Father watch over and protect mother and baby, always.
