Friday, November 8th in Ordinary Time

We have two choices, yes or no.

Saint Paul in our first reading from Phillipians says, They make foods into their god and they are proudest of something they ought to think shameful; the things they think important are earthly things.

What earthly things do I hold the most important?

Certainly, family, friends and community are important. Saint Paul reminds me that there may be something I am missing.

Still, we see a world where some people may be doing these things and is immune from justice. Nonetheless, they are not immune to God’s justice. “Evil may have its hour, but God will have His day”. Archbishop Fulton Sheen

None of us are racist, a rapist or robber. The important thing that I take out from this scripture is that we have to make sure we have no “gods’ that we follow.

Our Gospel shows the cunning and stealth of a dishonest servant. We are not like that. How do we do better and please our master? Saint Paul suggests that we follow those who have been a success is being a honest and fruitful servant.

To do this we need to clean house on our own. It is like donating things that are no longer good or don’t fit in our closset. I have had shirt that I can no longer wear but like them. They do me no good and just take up space. I need to donated them to someone who can wear them. My wife constantly donates her usable old clothes to nursing homes. The residence have difficulty shopping, transportation and appreciate the clothes.

Sin is another hurdle that creeps up on us. It starts small and works up to something bigger. It seems the object of today is to examine where we are in our journey of servanthood and try to improve. We all have the job as servants, and I want to be the best I can be.

God Love You Always
