Be as confident now, then, since the reward is so great. You will need endurance to do God’s will and gain what he has promised.
There is a married couple who come into the Deli that I work. They are dedicated to physical fitness. They purchase healthy and nutritious foods. They have a particular fondness to one of the salads I make with pears and broccoli. It is very tasty and balanced. The couple always work out on a daily basis. They are dedicated to their fitness programs, and they never seem to lack in the endurance to reach their goals. Nothing seems to dissuade them from their goals, Now, let us talk about our spiritual fitness.
Dedication and endurance is what it takes to succeed in reaching our goal of Heaven. There is another component and that is trust. The Devil will deceive you and whisper doubt and tell you to sleep-in on Sunday morning and become too busy for an evening Church service. Temptation comes from the Devil but we are sometime too willing to listen.
Only a little while now, a very little while, and the one that is coming will have come; he will not delay. The righteous man will live by faith, but if he draws back, my soul will take no pleasure in him. It is very difficult for even the most dedicated Christian to become complacent. We must pray for the endurance to do God’s will. The Devil will lead you to another path of depression and hopelessness. Watch out for him!
Morning prayers and the Sacraments are the training our souls need to endure. I plan my mornings around feeding the cat (Seamus) and my Rosary. The Sacraments are always important and must be received as often as possible.
Don’t lose heart!
In our Gospel Jesus speaks to the garden of our souls. He speaks of the seeds we plant. To work it takes endurance and sweat and tears but in the end we will have a bountiful harvest. Jesus never said it would be easy, but He does guarantee the end result if we have endurance.
