059338:Children playing in the snow Unknown c.1930

I will be their God, and they shall be my people.

Children love to play games. Even after school with part-time jobs we would only get together once or twice per week. It may include any number of games but to play the game they choose sides. ” Pick me, pick me” is the cry of the group. Then the fun begins. Some of the best times of my life was playing sand lot football in a field belonging to my parish school. It is now paved over and now part of the Cathedral parking lot. I don’t miss the sand spurs but the comradery and the glory of the moment were some of the most enjoyable times of my teenage life.

In our Gospel from Saint Mark today, Jesus went up the mountain and summoned those whom He wanted and they came to Him.

I like to to think the Apostles said ” Pick me “. I am sure all of us want to be on Jesus team. “Pick me”. I will put my laws in their minds and I will write them on their hearts. The Apostles for all their motivation didn’t know exactly what they were getting themselves into. Jesus picked His team then and is picking it now.

Most of us are not priests or religious but we all have vocations. We are all players. We are all saying, ” Pick Me”!

Are we willing to Know the Lord and be on His team?

We do have assurance and an incentive to be a team player. For all shall know me from the least to the greatest, for I will forgive their evildoing and remember their sins no more.

Our incentive is the grace and mercy of a loving and forgiving God. So in short I can only and simply say, ” Pick Me! O Lord, Pick me”.

God Love You Always
