Friday December 6th, First Week of Advent

I am blind without my glasses and hear better when I hear my hearing aids. I stopped wearing the hearing aids during COVID because they would flip out of my ear with the mask coming on and off. Nonetheless, I wear glasses.

It is amazing on how we depend on technology. Last week I pushed the wrong button on my 2019 car. What I did was turn off the car’s radar that assists the driver in lane changing and gives warnings when you are too close to another car. I could not figure out the instructions in the owner’s manual. Still, I took it to the dealers and this nice young man, Anthony went crazy and flipped screen from screen and in less than a minute the radar was back and operational. My driving will be better because I can see better around me.

Jesus is speaking to us today about the blindness that can creep into our lives. Father Tobin who was a High School friend had a mission was about pornography in our lives and how because of the internet could start in the simple picture and spread to dark places and how these “secret ” sins could ruin a persons life.

Isaiah also says, for tyrants shall be no more, and scoffers vanish, and all be destroyed who are disposed to do evil: those who gossip to incriminate others, those who try at the gate to trip the arbitrator and get the upright man’s case dismissed for groundless reasons. Blindness to sin can happen slowly. We become indifferent to our sins and the sins of others.

How do we become blind to sin? We do it when we don’t examine our conscience everyday and by not taking advantage of the gift of the Sacrament of Reconciliation.

The first Sunday of Advent was one of Hope. This Sunday coming up is one of Peace. Think about Peace in the world but also Peace in our own souls.

God Love You Always
