“Good morning Lord! I have been really good today. I haven’t sinned or hurt anyone with my words. I have been so good because I haven’t got out of bed yet. I haven’t had my coffee, read the newspaper or heard the news as yet. Lord it is a start. Help me with the rest of the day.” Morning prayer from a Christian comic.
Every day we have the opportunity of being perfect as Christ is perfect. Somehow, the world and our own nature gets in the way.
How can we experience a transformation or transfiguration of our lives. We can’t be changed as Elijah or Moses or Jesus in blinding white sinless robes. Our process is not instantaneous . It is a journey. Through the Sacrament of Reconciliation we can be transformed. However, it is a constant process of being transformed to that image of Jesus we seek. This is why we have to seek it very often.
Nonetheless, we can listen to Jesus. My wife and I are working on a 1000 piece puzzle. Wow! The one we are working at present is hard. Everyday we or ,I should say she, puts those pieces together. The progress is slow but the pieces will change from a pile of little bits of cardboard to a full picture.
In our Gospel today He speaks to the Apostles, As they were coming down from the mountain, he charged them not to relate what they had seen to anyone, except when the Son of Man had risen from the dead. All the pieces of the puzzle were not revealed. Much like the puzzle my wife and I are working. Each day the word of God speaks to us through Christ’s words.
Someday, we will hear the words “this is my beloved son or this is my beloved daughter”. People friends and relative will fail you. They are part of the puzzle too. No piece is perfect but they all fit in the end.
Our life is puzzle and soon the picture will be revealed to us if we listen to God’s Son.
Now where is that coffee!
