In the Olympics no runner turns around and goes back the other way halfway through the race. The runner goes forward. Now the runner might think that he is going off a cliff and yes, he might turn around. Nonetheless, we as a people may be running off a cliff. We say we are in training and running when we go to Church. We are training our souls for Heaven. Still, is our heart in it or are we are going through the motions. “Going through the motions” can happen to any of us.
My wife, Anna, says the only time I speed is when I am going to Church. Why am I leaving at the last minute. I don’t like to be late for anything. Still, I must admit I do some things out of habitual behavior. I ask myself if I do the will of God or just give lip service to it. I am in Church to be seen?
Do I train to win on my spiritual journey or just make a show?
The people of Judah were going through the motions of worship but not following the word of the Lord and most importantly not following the commandments. They would say one thing and do another. Jeremiah was only speaking the words of God. This was not Jeremiah’s ideas.
A prophet is only despised in his own country and in his own house’, and he did not work many miracles there because of their lack rough the motions faith.
Ask yourself today if you are trying to win the race or just “Go through the motions”. Are we really trying to run a race that leads us to heaven?
In my relationship with God do I really try to take His words and put them to practice in my life?us
I am not saying everyone is not following God’s plan. The people in Jesus’ hometown didn’t listen to Him. We must listen. Just some of may be missing it some of the time. People like Jeremiah are God’s reminder to us as a people to train our faith to not go through the motions. We are Olympians in the spiritual realm in our race to Heaven.
