December 8th , Feast of the Immaculate Conception

We celebrate today the fact that Mary was born without Original Sin. Because of her obedience she has and does have a special relationship to God. She is for us the model of a Christian. She risked death and public ridicule in trusting God. She said, “let what you have said be done to me.’ She is the model for all of us with her faith and courage. Mary did not know the future that we have down as history. She had the fact that she had no Original Sin and her faith. The scripture is from the Annunciation, but only alludes to the Immaculate Conception. Before the world was made, he chose us, chose us in Christ, to be holy and spotless, and to live through love in his presence. God chose all of us. When Gabriel said, ‘Rejoice, so highly favored! The Lord is with you.’ .

What surprises me is how quickly she answered. I would have said, “Let me think about this for a minute”. I certainly would have drug my feet in answering. I somehow think the angel, Gabriel, must have been brought his message from God in a magnificent way. However, God knew her answer would be yes, so He gave her a gift. The gift from her birth was to be born without Original Sin. Mary was a superhero. She was also obedient to God’s will.

I strive to have the courage to stand up and be more like Mary. Of course, I don’t always succeed, but it is a goal. Mary is the most courageous women in the Bible. At Lourdes one of Mary’s messages stated that she was the Immaculate Conception. Today we celebrate her love and courage.

God Love You Always
