there will be rejoicing among the angels of God
over one sinner who repents.”

As a doctor and onco surgeon, we see patients at their terminal moments . Often we are helpless and I keep thinking what must be running through their minds….. do they think about death so they are relieved of the suffering ? or do are they scared cause this is the only world we know of and eternal life is an abstract concept where we are alone and have to navigate ourselves ?!

Death is inevitable and after life is not known, while the faith teaches us to pray and live for a better eternal life where we meet God , I keep wondering if my deeds have booked my place in hell. What will happen? Will I meet my grandmothers and my pet cat ? Will God say you didnt pass the test and send me away ?

I want to confess and repent for my sins but I find no time for confession or I dont make time – sounds more apt! I always believed in absolution at confession until a priest said ” you will go back n repeat these sins” I was shocked …. I did ! I was ashamed … But I prayed and returned .. and the loop and vicious cycle of Gods unending love prevails …

It is hard to believe someone can be so patient and kind. But they are – like our parents who are the ultimate sources of unending love.. mine sure do make it obvious and alot of people I meet cant imagine them showing affection to a 36 year old daughter …… in my mothers words … for a parent a child is always a child .. however old they may get!

My brother once told me I could baptise kids in the Neonatal ICU with a sign of the cross on their forheads and so I did !! I dont know how many reached purgatory or heaven but I guess I should do the same with my terminally ill patients too. I ensured my dad had final sacrament when we rushed for emergency surgery during his initial diagnosis and that gave me more strength to fight him through!

Today as children of god , we return to the Lord to repent and he smiles and hugs us with same enthusiasm my parents greet me whenever I call or meet them!! The sense of happiness to see a child return is unfathomable .. so lets just pray to our eternal father and return to Him for hope of eternal life …

AMEN!
