Could I have done what Abraham did to sacrifice his only son, Issac?

I am not sure my faith is as strong as Abraham’s was. The Bible story is also the setting of the prophecy of Jesus Christ, the Son of God and His sacrifice on the Cross. Nonetheless, is this only about faith in God and isn’t it something else.

Isn’t it also about trust, as well as faith in God our Creator?

I believe that trust and faith are learned experiences. Because of Original Sin we as a people have tried to do things on our own. That is the point! We failed.

If we are to trust God and have faith in Him we have to start out in small things. Hopefully, we started this as a child but adults are not above learning this lesson. Remember our sinful nature wants things our way and not God’s way.

My elderly mother never drove a car and I would take her to the grocery. At the time she didn’t have a handicap permit for disabled parking. I would pray for a close space so she wouldn’t have to walk very far to enter the grocery store. It always seemed to work. I didn’t start trusting God then but sometimes today’s scriptural readings remind me to trust Him more and in everything. That is faith and that is where Abraham showed God that we humans could have faith in Him.

God is concerned about all parts of our lives and not just a parking space. He is a “jealous God” (Exodus 20) and want us to depend on Him for everything. Abraham knew this lesson to perfection. We can too.

Jesus says in our Gospel, So too with Satan: if he is divided against himself, how can his kingdom stand?, …. ‘He who is not with me is against me.

As I pray today for all the victims of Hurricane Milton. My faith and their faith all begins with trust in God. To my many friends and family in Florida I send the message of trust in God and He will take care of the rest.

God Love You Always

  1. Thank you Bob, for your wise and thoughtful words. I don’t think of God as jealous, only loving and forgiving. But there it is in the Bible.
Thank you for bringing this to my walk with Christ.
Prayers for all victims of the 2 hurricanes.
