Every day scripture is meant for you.
Every day scripture is meant for me.
We all have daily routines. Mine is black coffee first and prayer. The next thing is scripture and the message that the Lord has for me to take forward throughout my day. Thomas said to him, “Master, we do not know where you are going; how can we know the way?” Jesus said to him, “I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me. Jesus is my road map.
Summer is vacation travel time. The first thing to decide is to figure out where we are going. I love and treasure all the maps and timetables that are involved in planning and booking a trip. There are always unknowns and unrealistic assumptions. This is always a difference between the plan and the actual trip. I often think of an old cartoon strip called the “The Family Circus.” My great uncle, Dick, loved this daily cartoon. As the panels unfolds, the little boy is headed home from an afternoon of play. He is told to come straight home. The result is the funny part. It shows the little boy’s path as he stops by a pond, stops by a friend’s house, stops at a park and uses the swing. The result is not a straight line but a ramble and a zig zag of swirls and backtracks and stopping and starting. The boy does come home but the journey is never as expected or planned.
The date we are born and the date we die also represent a journey as well. From Baptism to Heaven, we have a zig zag path in our journey of life. Jesus says in today’s readings, “Master, we do not know where you are going,
how can we know the way?” Jesus said to him, “I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.”
So our message today is to follow the trip plan and follow Jesus and don’t worry. “Do not let your hearts be troubled.” Our route may have stops and starts because of sin or circumstances. My wife’s cancer doctor, Erin, we just found out has cancer. She is a very professional and empathetic practitioner. Unexpected things happen along life’s way we need to encourage others and be encouraged. Our journey is not alone. We have other people, and we have Jesus to keep us on track. Jesus is the way.
Enjoy the journey!
Enjoy the trip!
God Love You Always
