Christmas Day, December 25th

Christmas at the White House

The people who walked in darkness have seen a great light; upon those who dwelt in the land of gloom a light has shone. You have brought them abundant joy and great rejoicing

Today is born our Savior, Christ the Lord. Thinking back to the first Christmas you have to wonder what people have thought about this blessed event. Luke describes some of the reaction. Now there were shepherds in that region living in the fields and keeping the night watch over their flock. The angel of the Lord appeared to them and the glory of the Lord shone around them and they were struck with great fear…And suddenly there was a multitude of heavenly host with angel praising God and saying: “Glory to God in the highest and on earth peace to those on whom his favor rests.”

I would have been scared out of my socks. No one at the time totally understood what was happening. Every generation since then has to rediscover what did happen by studying scripture. I can just picture the peaceful night sky that the shepherds were so familiar being lit up by a legion of Angels. Think of the stories they told their grandkids whom I’m sure didn’t believe them. Parts of the world celebrate the coming of the Lord on different times and events in the story of Christ’s birth. The important message is for today in the city of David a savior has been born for you. You are the reason he came into the world.

We may not have all our family members around our table this year but we have the greatest gift of a savior. May His peace and blessings be with you today and through the coming year.

God love you Always
