In ancient times man did not understand the periodic table of elements. Their elements were earth, fire and water. The significance of blood was also understood. Then and now blood was life. My local blood bank keeps calling for me to come into their office and donate. Because of medications I sometimes cannot donate. It is a balance and a window but blood is life saving for those that need it.
The Spirit is the one who testifies, and the Spirit is truth. So there are three who testify, the Spirit, the water and the Blood, and the three are of one accord…….. And this is the testimony: God gave us eternal life, and this life is in his Son. Whoever possesses the Son has life; whoever does not possess the Son of God does not have life.
We receive the Holy Spirit through the sacrament of Baptism which opens up out souls to be perfect in God’s eyes. In Luke’s gospel the Jewish cleansing ritual is with water. Lepers washed and presented themselves to the priests to show that they no longer had leprosy . Then the body was perfect just as the soul is perfect after Baptism and Reconciliation.
We all know people who say that there is no god and when life is over so are we. The thing that these people ignore is that eternity is a long time. I write these things to you so that you may know that you have eternal life, you who believe in the name of the Son of God. Earlier in this passage John writes, Whoever believes in the Son of God has this testimony within himself.
I sometimes have trouble seeing other people as God sees. We are each important in God’s eyes . How do I encourage that belief in other people so I can see them as God sees them? My life should be that testimony.
Jesus life was a testimony, if we believe in Him we have life we have the Blood that gives us life. In today’s Gospel, Jesus stretched out his hand touched him and said, I will do it. Be made clean. Jesus is doing the same thing today for those who believe in Him today. There is hope for everyone even those we think there is no hope.
God Love You Always
