Angel of God, my Guardian dear, to whom God’s love commits me here…
Many of you surely know this prayer. This has been a nightly bedtime prayer for my wife and I and our son for many years. As he’s grown and entered the pre-teen years, we’ve also included the St. Michael the Archangel Prayer for a little added strength.
But how amazing it is to think of all our angels in heaven that are always looking upon the face of our Heavenly Father. They are there, always, looking over us.
And believe me – we need it.
I know a number of times that my angels were there, watching over me, protecting me from harm. And there have been other times, where God has held them back, so I could learn something, so I could grow in some way. And sometimes, both happened at the same time.
I think of all the angels in Heaven that are looking out for each of us. It’s awe inspiring. It’s humbling. Angel of God – it seems like a child’s prayer. But in fact, as Jesus says, “unless you turn and become like children, you will not enter the Kingdom of heaven.
Whoever humbles himself like this child is the greatest in the Kingdom of heaven.”
And so we need to turn to our Angels, our protectors, as a child would his own protectors. We need to look upon our Faith, our God, with the same awe and humility.
We need to look to and we need to believe inour Guardians. For they are always looking upon the Face of God. Who is always looking upon us.
Even when we don’t know it. Even when we don’t understand it.
It’s refreshing and comforting to know that God looks over us in this way.
There are times when we do things that we do not understand. There are times when things happen that we do not understand. There are times when people love us, yet they don’t understand us. They don’t understand why we do the things we do. And we don’t understand why it is others do the things they do.
But our Guardians do. They see through us into our soul. They see us as God sees us, and they know what makes us tick. They know where to steer us. And they know when to let us fail, sometimes to our demise. Because they are forever looking upon the face of God. They know His plan. They are a part of it.
It’s comforting to know that they are there. The He is there. Working through them. Our angels of God. Our guardians. Let us appreciate them and look to their guidance.
