As an obstetrician, we learn basics of the physiology of pregnancy, while it describes how the hormones surge and the ovum and sperm combine to multiply in days and by 37 days post conception , there is a tiny heart beat. By 6 weeks of pregnancy, we can visualize that on a screen of an ultrasound machine! Watching this mass of cells grow to a well formed human , with moving limbs and a beating heart increasing in size from an egg to a soccer ball(football) and helping the woman housing this new life to push it out into this world to watch in awe at the human she has reproduced — The evidence of life is the most amazing miracle I come across on a daily basis at my work and it still never ceases to amaze me ! (I get goose bumps just typing) — I make birthdays for a living!
As I celebrate my own day of life today, I actually pondered (immensely) about what my purpose for this new year– BE NOT AFRAID!! As Saint John Paul II said… let me give listen and pay attention to the calling of God in my life and live my life for God. I have been victim to peer pressure as a youth and often steered away from the directives of the Church. But I as I struggle to come to terms with my weaknesses , I notice God standing there at the far end waiting for my return with grace and mercy! And it gives me hope to not give up in my pursuit of my calling!!
While I endeavour this new year to make a better faith filled journey with the Lord through more personal prayer time and self discipline , I wish to dig deeper in my heart for more respect for the form and dignity of the human life especially the unborn! While all of us are lucky and destined to be alive here and reading this, while I eat my birthday cake.. there are so many who have not seen the light of day!
PRAYER
I thank you Lord, for this beautiful day and year ahead in my life ! Help those who struggle with dealing with it, to come to your refuge and surrender all their woes! Forgive them Lord if they have gone astray like me and guide them back with your mercy and grace! Amen
